Shangri-la
Chapter 17

She was a dream, detached from reality and chasing after a wish. She was an exotic and beautiful flower that blossomed for no one. Alder smiled inwardly to himself, watching the little cars move along the road with hawk eyes. He couldn’t let them go much farther–they were dangerously close to the sealed gateway to Shangri-la–but while they were hurtling down the road in those metal contraptions there was nothing he could do to stop them.

Lotus, why do you fight against me? We would be wonderful together. You and I could protect Shangri-la for all of eternity.

She was smart, hard, and determined to see her goal through to the end, regardless of the consequences. She needed him to introduce logic into her life, to reign in her ambitious nature.

He wanted her.

More than anything, Alder wanted Lotus, and he was willing to do whatever it took to have her.
